Description
Whether it was distance runners or javelin throwers, Glen’s thoughtful guidance helped shape countless athletes, many of whom went on to podium finishes at district and provincial levels. Behind the scenes, he took on the less glamorous work too, coordinating local track meets for 20 years and lending his time to officiate at regional and provincial events.
Glen’s love of the game extended beyond the track. In 2001, he took the helm of the BRHS Senior Boys Volleyball team and led them to a provincial title in just his second year. He later coached the Senior Girls to a thrilling Division 3 championship win in 2009, capping off years of dedication with a banner they could all be proud of. These moments weren’t just wins, they were memories built through teamwork, growth, and trust.
His commitment to young athletes carried into the rinks of Middleton, where from 2010 to 2018 Glen coached Minor Hockey teams from IP to Peewee, all while serving on the Mustangs executive. True to his nature, Glen led with humility, focusing not on records but on the experience for each player.
In recent years, Glen brought his energy to MRHS Volleyball, where he’s built a program marked by respect, grit, and success. Since 2021, his Senior Boys teams have earned five regional and provincial banners and four provincial medals, including back-to-back Division 2 titles. But more than that, Glen has built a culture of excellence, mentorship, and joy.
The Sports Heritage Wall of Fame is proud to recognize Glen Melanson: a coach, mentor, and true builder of community sport.
