Teaching is Greg’s vocation since starting at MRHS in 1987 to the present but Coaching has been his avocation. He has been Vice Principal in recent years. For the past 31 years he has coached every single year and most years coaching two or more teams. At MRHS he has coached Cross Country Running 1987-1994, Track and Field 1987-1992, Senior Boys Soccer 1989-1995, Junior Boys Basketball 1991-1995 and 2015 – present, Senior Girls Soccer 1994-2007 and 2013-2014, Senior Girls Basketball 1995-2015, and Junior Boys Soccer 2016 – present. Greg was Athletic Director at MRHS 2007- 2016 and NSSAF District Coordinator 1994-1998. Community sports and recreation has benefitted from Greg’s work as Coach of Summer Soccer 1988-1998 and 2012- 2016, Middleton Tennis Association President 1988-1998, and Organizer of the Middleton Girls Spring Basketball League 2001 to the present.
Winning isn’t everything but Greg Bower’s teams have done their share and then some. His Girls Basketball teams qualified for Provincials all twenty years with him at the helm, winning 5 Gold, 4 Silver, 5 Bronze, one 4th, two 6th, two 7th, one 8th while recording 447 wins, 181 losses, 1 tie for an amazing 71%. They were a juggernaut! In addition his teams won Provincial titles in droves: 3 Girls Summer Soccer, 2 Senior Girls Soccer, 1 Senior Boys Soccer; with medal placings of 3 Bronze in Senior Girls Soccer, 1 Gold in Junior Boys Basketball Regionals, and a Regional Silver in Junior Boys Soccer.
Greg Bower’s enviable overall coaching record will undoubtedly never be surpassed and he has additional years to add to it! The Sports Heritage Wall of Fame is honored to welcome Greg Bower as a most deserving Builder Inductee.
