At the Canada Games she helped her Team Nova Scotia to an eighth place finish out of thirteen teams. Janice was also the Nova Scotia Synchronized Swimming Champion in both 1988 and 1989. For her proficiency in her sport she was awarded the Moosehead Award for Nova Scotia Synchronized Swimming in 1989. She graduated from MRHS in 1990 and attended Acadia University, but her athletic side lay dormant through the 1990\u2019s. In the new century her athleticism again came to the forefront. Janice then took up power lifting with a vengeance. Quickly she rose to prominence by capturing the Nova Scotia Women\u2019s 90+kg Open Class three years in succession \u2013 2004, 2005 and 2006. Her Nova Scotia wins entitled her to compete at the Canadian Championships for three years \u2013 \u201904 in Kitchener, Ontario, \u201905 in Calgary, Alberta and \u201906 in Chilliwack, British Columbia. In her three-year span, she was first in Canada in 2004 in 3-lift competition \u2013 squat, bench and dead-lift and second in bench press alone. At Nationals in 2005 she was first in both the 3-lift and the bench press. In her 3-year run she established Nova Scotia records in all 3 lifts and total lift. These records retired with her as shortly after this time the classifications were changed. In addition her 303 lb bench press was a Canadian record that stood until 2009. Her heaviest lifts in competition were 386 lb squat, 281 lb bench, and 386 lb deadlift for a miraculous combined total of 1053 lb.<\/p>\n

Janice MacDonald was born in Middleton. Growing up in Middleton her chief interest was swimming \u2013 individual synchronized swimming to be exact.
