A very physical player at 6 feet and 8 inches, within two and a half years the big forward led the Huskies into the C.I.A.U.’s at the Metro Centre. They dropped second-seed Western Ontario 66- 62 followed by sixth -seed McMaster 77-68 to advance against top – ranked Alberta Golden Bears. Tied at half-time and again after regulation, Cory Janes and the Huskies were not to be denied! He sunk 26 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and had three shots blocked; under pressure in overtime he swished three crucial free throws, two with less than five seconds to go to seal the 73-69 victory and earn Tournament Most Valuable Player Honors.<\/p>\n
That summer Cory joined the Canadian Team for the World University Games in Spain before they bowed out 87-82 in the quarter-final games to the U.S.A. The following season as Conference All Star his Huskies again advanced to the C.I.A.U.’s before succombing to St. F.X. in the final. His university career complete, Cory played one season of semipro in the top Danish League before a torn rotar cuff ended his basketball career at the elite level. Cory Janes was born in Lahr Germany. His family moved to Middleton in 1983. At Middleton Regional High School Cory excelled in basketball, volleyball, high jump and badminton. He spent a year and a half playing basketball for the Dalhousie Tigers and a half year at Champlain College in Lennoxville, P.Q.
