In 1981 he competed in the Canada Games for Nova Scotia in the 10,000m in Thunder Bay, Ontario. In 1985 he would once again compete in the Canada Games in the 5000m and earning a well deserved seventh place finish in the 10,000m in Saint John, NB. At the prestigious Johnny Miles Marathon in Pictou County he was second in 1984 and in the Half Marathon he won third in 1982 and won it in 1:10:48 in 1985. At Stamhope, PEI, in 1985 Mike placed fifth at the Canadian 20k Championship in 1:06:28. At the Antigonish Highland Games he won the 5000m twice and was second in 32:00 in 10,000m. Mike won or placed well in races of varying lengths from 5mile up to full marathons in many places throughout the Province but particularly in Halifax, Dartmouth, Mahone Bay, Bridgewater, Liverpool, Barrington where in 1986 he won the Nova Scotia Marathon in 2:32:46, Clare, Greenwood, Wolfville, Hantsport where he won the Beazley Memorial 6mile the oldest race in the Province seven times, the Annapolis County Exhibition 8mile Half Marathon at home in Middleton.<\/p>\n<p>In 1985 Mike was Run Nova Scotia Series Champion and was second in four other years. Mike Hamilton is a most deserving addition to the Sports Heritage Wall of Fame.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Hamilton was born in Montreal but grew up in Middleton from the age of 10 onwards. After dabbling in various sports he took to running with great zeal in 1977 under Coaches Laurence and MacKenzie. In 1977 when he won the 100m, 200m and 400m at the Annapolis Valley West Congress Track and Field Championships. Within a few years he would go from a sprinter to a long distance runner.
