1966-67 Middleton Regional High School Girls Field Hockey Team Headmasters Champions<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Girls Field Hockey Team at MRHS in 1963-64 won the Western Nova Scotia Field Hockey Championship but that was just a prelude to the victories yet to come.<\/p>\n

In 1964-65, the girls were guided by Coach Verna Weatherhead.\u00a0 During the regular season, they lost to Cornwallis District High School 1-0, played to a scoreless tie with Windsor Regional High School before defeating them by a 1-0 score and then exchanged 1-0 games with Sidney Stephen High School of Bedford.\u00a0 In Provincials, the girls played another scoreless tie with Sidney Stephen before beating them 2-0, thus capturing the first girls Provincial Championship in any sport for MRHS.<\/p>\n

In 1964-65, again guided by Coach Weatherhead, the girls had eleven returnees.\u00a0 In a shortened regular season, they tied Edgehill School of Windsor 1-1 and then went on to defeat Acadia University by a 2-1 score.\u00a0 In playoffs, they downed Windsor Regional 1-0 and 3-0.\u00a0 At Provincials, the MRHS squad defeated Prince Andrew High School of Dartmouth to repeat as Headmasters Field Hockey Champions.<\/p>\n

In 1966-67, under new coach, Linda Falkenham, there were seven girls in their third year and two others in their second year returning to the team.\u00a0 In regular season play, they defeated Edgehill 1-0, Windsor Regional 2-0 and identical 3-0 shutouts over Cornwallis District.\u00a0 In the Teachers College Tournament in Truro, they placed second after dropping host NSTC 2-0 and UNB Junior Varsity 1-0 before losing to Moncton 1-0.\u00a0 In a hard fought playoff round, the girls nipped Windsor Regional 1-0 and 2-1.\u00a0 In a sudden death championship game, the MRHS squad captured their third consecutive Headmasters Girls Field Hockey Championship by edging Sidney Stephen 2-1.\u00a0 The girls compiled a very impressive record over the three years – 17 wins, 3 ties and only 3 losses.\u00a0 For this tremendous achievement, the three teams were selected to be inducted together into the Sports Heritage Wall of Fame<\/p>\n
