Description
It is as a builder in hockey that Cecil has contributed significantly to Middleton and District. He began coaching in 1984-85 as Assistant with the N.S. Bantam D Champion Middleton and District Mustangs, later with the Bantam C Mustangs, the N.S. Pee Wee C Champion Mustangs and Western Valley Bantam AAA Spartans. As Mustang coach, Cecil spent seven seasons with the Novice teams and two years with the Atom A. In 1988-89, Cecil’s Novice I team was the first Middleton team to play outside Nova Scotia. The following year his Novice I team won four tournaments and earned a second and third placing in two others. At the Atom A level his teams finished second in Nova Scotia Provincials and third the following year. Cecil served as Team Manager for Mustang Atom A and Spartan AAA Bantams.
Cecil served Middleton and District Minor Hockey four years as Novice Co-Ordinator, ten years as Tournament and Assistant Ice Co-Ordinator, Vice-President for five years and one year as President. In 1987, Cecil single handedly raised $10,000.00 to purchase two new sets of socks and sweaters for every Mustang team! He was MDMHA Volunteer of the Year in 1991-92. In 1992-93, Cecil was one of the main organizers of the Western Valley Minor Hockey Association, drafted their Constitution and By-Laws and selected the name Spartans.
Cecil has been a partner in L.J. Robicheau and Son Fisheries for many years serving clientele from Annapolis Royal to Windsor.
