David began his teaching career in 1970 at BC Silver Junior\/Senior High School in Spryfield and coached Junior Girls Basketball.\u00a0 In 1971 he moved on to the newly opened J.L. Illsley High School in Spryfield, where he began a long-time coaching tandem with Colleague Kevin Turner, teaching and coaching the Varsity boys volleyball team and Assistant Coach of the Rugby team for two seasons.<\/p>\n
In 1973 David moved back to the Valley to teach at Lawrencetown Consolidated School.\u00a0 In 1973-74 at L.C.S., again with Kevin Turner, he coached the Junior Boy\u2019s basketball team.\u00a0 From 1974 to 1988 he coached the L.C.S. Senior Girl\u2019s Basketball and won two back-to-back Nova Scotia Provincial \u201cA\u201d Championships in 1976-77 and 1977-78.\u00a0 From 1988-1992 he coached the Mini basketball program at Lawrencetown Elementary School.\u00a0 His final coaching stint was eight years at the helm of the Bridgetown Regional High School Senior Girl\u2019s Basketball from 1992 to 2000.\u00a0 In 1998-99 his BRHS team captured the N.S.S.A.F. Division III Provincial title.<\/p>\n
David is a double-inductee into the \u201cWall\u201d having been a valuable member of the Lawrencetown Legends, Nova Scotia Intermediate \u201cC\u201d Basketball Champions 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001.\u00a0 In the last few years he has turned his attention to authoring some very interesting local histories including \u201cLawrencetown, Our Hockeyville\u201d.\u00a0 The Sport Heritage Wall of Fame is very pleased to welcome David Whitman as a member in the Builder Category!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
