{"id":1536,"date":"2018-12-10T21:11:05","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T21:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.middletonshwof.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=1536"},"modified":"2018-12-11T01:20:31","modified_gmt":"2018-12-11T01:20:31","slug":"thomas-edward-ross","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/www.middletonshwof.com\/?product=thomas-edward-ross","title":{"rendered":"Thomas Edward Ross"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A consummate volunteer, Tom spent many years with the 1st Middleton Scouting Movement and the Middleton and District Swimming Pool Committee, and more recently since 2012 as coordinator of his Church\u2019s weekly soup kitchen. For 11 years Tom was a volunteer waiter with the Spaghetti Supper in support of CACL and often supervised high school students in their Grade 11 Com-Pal program. Since his entry into the Dartmouth Natal Day 6 Miler in 1977 running has been his recreational passion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the past four decades Tom has taken part in over 200 races ranging from the mile to eight marathons, including the prestigious \u201cJohnny Miles\u201d in New Glasgow. He was generally a \u201cmiddle of the pack\u201d runner although he did win an occasional award. It is through running that he has made his mark as a Builder. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Queens County he organized a two week running course and their first Terry Fox Run in the 1980\u2019s. From 1988 to 2009 Tom was the organizer for the St. Andrew\u2019s Half Marathon with upwards of 100 runners for 22 years. He founded and organized the Middleton Mile, the prelude to the Heart of the Valley Days Parade down Commercial St. from 1991 to 2005 attracting runners of all ages. For three years in the mid 1990\u2019s Tom helped organize the Highland Hill Run in conjunction with the Highland Games Weekend at Middleton\u2019s Rotary Raceway Park. From 2006 to 2010 he organized a small group nicknamed the Hurtin\u2019 Broncos which meet once a week to run for health and camaraderie. The Sports Heritage Wall of Fame is honoured to welcome Tom Ross as a most deserving Builder Inductee.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\f<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tom Ross was born and educated in Halifax, playing both baseball and football in his youth.
