Marion became, along with Judy Roop, one of the outstanding track and field athletes in the Maritime Provinces. At the Maritime Championships held in Moncton, New Brunswick\u00a0 in 1955, she actually outscored future Olympian, Diane Matheson, 14 points to 13 for the overall female title.<\/p>\n
In most meets she would win the high jump, long jump, shot put and discuss. At one time she held the Maritime discus record of 103 feet, 3 inches. Marion was selected to attend the Olympic Training Plan in Toronto in 1954.<\/p>\n
After retiring from track and field, Marion became an outstanding golfer for many of her later years. Another area of interest was as a coach and judge in figure skating. Marion also had a tremendous passion for gardening.<\/p>\n
Marion and her teammates, Judy (Roop) Mosher and Don Parker, truly established Middleton as a \u201cTrack and Field Town\u201d during the fifties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Marion Cox was born in Middleton.
