Description
Leaving home at sixteen, Carlyle played in Prince Edward Island with the Summerside AAA Midget and Junior A as well as the PEI Canada Games team. In 1995 he was drafted #111 in the 8th round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League by the Beauport Harfangs where he played for two seasons, followed by a year with the Laval Titans, and finally the Halifax Mooseheads where “Louie” became a fan favorite.
Over his four-year Q League career, he played 245 games garnering 30 goals and 55 assists for 94 points and a plus-minus of +20 with an astonishing 1256 P.I.M. Little wonder the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils signed the 6 foot 3 inch 230-plus pounder to a free agent contract in the Spring of 1999! For five seasons toiling in the Devils system he spent 2 1/2 years in the AHL with the Albany River Rats and 2 1/2 years in the ECHL with the Columbus (Georgia) Cottonmouths where he now resides. In 2004- 05 Carlyle played with both the Portland Pirates of the AHL and South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. His stats for six seasons in the AHL and ECHL were 404 games, 63 goals, 83 assists, 146 points, and 1312 PIM.
The next seven years would see Carlyle playing in the UHL for Danbury and Roanoke Valley for a year, one year with Bolzana – the Champions of the Italian League, two years in the EIHL with Belfast and Coventry, and a final three seasons with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League before retiring in 2012. The Sport Heritage Wall of Fame is honored to welcome Carlyle Lewis as a most worthy inductee.
