The eighteen members of the MRHS Senior Boyd soccer team under the tutelage of Coach Greg Bower had a very productive season in the fall of 1991. The primarily sixteen and seventeen year olds were sensational against their every strong Annapolis Valley high school opponents running up a very impressive record of five wins, two ties and only one defeat.
In playoff action versus Bridgewater, they.trounced them by the score of 6-1. Playing against Chester Municipal High School with the winner having the right to host provincials, and on a muddy and slippery field the Clippers squeaked by MRHS 1 to nil.
For the championship weekend teams from MRHS, New Glasgow High School, Pictou Academy and host Chester travelled to the very wet pitch at Center Consolidated in Lunenburg County. Chester advanced to the final with a win over New Glasgow. Tightly contested game, MRHS outlasted Pictou for a 2-1 win and the opportunity for a measure of revenge against Chester.
In the championship game, the young man from Middleton pulled out all the stops in route to a 3-1 victory with James Bowlby booting in all three goals.
