Description
Stephen began with the Middleton Mustangs and Western Valley Spartans, where his talent soon became evident. At just 14 years old, he earned a place on Team Nova Scotia at the Atlantic Challenge Cup before representing the province again with the Under-16 team the following season. His development continued with the Valley Wildcats, where his strong defensive play and competitive spirit prepared him for junior hockey.
Selected 58th overall in the 2009 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Draft, Stephen spent five seasons competing against Canada’s top young players. After starting his junior career with the Lewiston Maineiacs, he played nearly 300 regular-season games with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. His leadership and character earned him the role of team captain for his final two seasons, and in 2010 he proudly represented Team Canada Atlantic as captain at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Stephen continued his career at Acadia University, where he was a dependable presence on the Axemen blue line for four seasons. After graduation, he returned to the Valley Wildcats as an assistant coach, sharing his experience with the next generation. Throughout his career, Stephen led by example, earning the respect of teammates and coaches through humility, perseverance, a strong work ethic, and commitment to those around him. His journey reflects not only athletic excellence, but also the character and integrity that make him a worthy representative of Middleton’s sporting tradition.
