Description
He proudly represented the MRHS Varsity Basketball Team for five seasons, from Grade 8 through Grade 12 (1976-1981).During his senior high years he was touted as one of the top guards in the province. His signature moves included his shuffle step, no look and pin point bounce passes which mesmerized many opponents. He continued his career at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. There, he made an immediate impact, earning Rookie of the Year honours in his first season before being named an All-Conference player the following year. His play helped his team capture a third-place finish at the provincial championship.
Sidney was also skilled in baseball and recognized with an invitation to attend the Cincinnati Reds training camp, an opportunity few local athletes have ever earned.
While his playing days eventually came to a close, the qualities that made Sid successful in sport became the foundation of an equally impressive career in leadership. Over more than two decades, he has dedicated himself to serving First Nations communities through housing, natural resources, and community development before becoming Chief of Glooscap First Nation in 2012. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation as a thoughtful leader, respected for his integrity, communication, and commitment to improving the lives of others.
Whether competing in basketball or on the baseball field or leading within his community, Sidney Peters has always demonstrated that success is measured not only by personal achievement, but by the positive impact made on those around you.
The Sports Heritage Wall of Fame is proud to welcome Sidney “Sid” Peters as a truly deserving Athlete Inductee.
