David began his teaching career in 1970 at BC Silver Junior/Senior High School in Spryfield and coached Junior Girls Basketball. In 1971 he moved on to the newly opened J.L. Illsley High School in Spryfield, where he began a long-time coaching tandem with Colleague Kevin Turner, teaching and coaching the Varsity boys volleyball team and Assistant Coach of the Rugby team for two seasons.
In 1973 David moved back to the Valley to teach at Lawrencetown Consolidated School. In 1973-74 at L.C.S., again with Kevin Turner, he coached the Junior Boy’s basketball team. From 1974 to 1988 he coached the L.C.S. Senior Girl’s Basketball and won two back-to-back Nova Scotia Provincial “A” Championships in 1976-77 and 1977-78. From 1988-1992 he coached the Mini basketball program at Lawrencetown Elementary School. His final coaching stint was eight years at the helm of the Bridgetown Regional High School Senior Girl’s Basketball from 1992 to 2000. In 1998-99 his BRHS team captured the N.S.S.A.F. Division III Provincial title.
David is a double-inductee into the “Wall” having been a valuable member of the Lawrencetown Legends, Nova Scotia Intermediate “C” Basketball Champions 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. In the last few years he has turned his attention to authoring some very interesting local histories including “Lawrencetown, Our Hockeyville”.
