With the opening of the Middleton and District Arena in 1971 and the organization of the Middleton and District Figure Skating Club shortly afterwards, Zillah
was soon immersed in their activities and kept up her involvement for nearly two decades. Somehow Zillah was able to juggle family, figure skating organization, and her work in the credit union industry. With our famed Precision Line Teams of 1981-82- 83-84-85-86-87 Zillah was the official chaperone and organized all the fund-raising for their extensive travel costs. Working hand in hand with Carolyn Currie they spent countless hours, not to mention dollars, along with much hard work and determination to enable these teams to travel to Provincial (mostly in Metro) and Atlantic competitions, (Moncton, NB), as well as Nationals in London, Ontario (twice) and Toronto. It must have been a thrilling experience for these 48 young women, over the years, to travel with Zillah and Carolyn especially the first big one in 1983 all the way to London, Ontario, in “the little blue bus that could”. Judging courses eventually enabled Zillah to judge Provincial and Atlantic Precision Line Championships and serve as a trial judge at Nationals. Those 48 young women from the Precision Line Teams, other skaters from MRHS, indeed all citizens of Middleton and District are forever indebted to Zillah Gaul for all of her work and dedication on our behalf. Zillah Gaul is a most deserving inductee as a Builder into the Sports Heritage Wall of Fame.
