Description
Besides being an outstanding basketball team and capturing a Provincial title, the accomplishment is even greater considering it was the first, and only, Provincial boys title ever won by L.C.S. In competing against other “C” boys basketball teams such as, River Hebert, Kings-Edgehill, New Ross, Digby, Islands Consolidated, Weymouth, Lockeport and North Queens, the Lancers were undefeated the entire season. They also managed to be a tough competitor against higher classified teams in the Valley such as Middleton, Bridgetown, Annapolis and West Kings.
At the Regionals in New Ross, Lawrencetown dropped Weymouth 77-71, before edging out Lockeport 49-45 in the championship game. At the Provincials in River Hebert, the lads from L.C.S. managed to defeat Kings-Edgehill in the opener to pit them against the host team in the final. Facing a deficit in the score at half-time, the Lancers clawed their way back in the second stanza and ended up downing River Hebert by a final score of 54-44. A determined effort from an outstanding group of young men schooled in the intricacies of the game by Coach Kevin Turner.
