Description
On a two day trip through northern Nova Scotia prior to Christmas they reeled off four wins by downing North Nova in New Glasgow 52-37 and later that day in Port Hawkesbury dropping SAREC 56-40. The second day they defeated the previous year’s Champs BEC in New Waterford 71-58 and finally disposed of Glace Bay 63-52. At the NSSAF Western Regionals played before their home crowd they won in the semi-final 76-34 over Central Kings and in the final against Northeast Kings Education Centre, Jani Martinius seemed to score at will in a 74-52 convincing victory! Surprisingly, MRHS had beaten NKEC in three earlier matches but by only a few points.
At Provincials in New Waterford against Forest Heights of Chester Basin, Elliott with 11 and Baker with 10 led MRHS to a 57-40 win. The following day against the home team BEC, MRHS won convincingly 70-39, led by Gillis with 23 and Elliott with 17. The final pitted the Wolverines versus their Valley rivals the Titans from NKEC. By halftime MRHS had what looked like a commanding 44-21 lead. In the third quarter NKEC outscored Middleton 27 to 4, making it 48-44! Despite again being outscored in the final quarter, the Wolverines led by Martinius with 22 and Hebb with 20 were not to be denied for Gold, in a squeaker 62-61 Championship Win!
