Description
After high school, it took Shawn about ten years to find the sport he loved – arm wrestling. For the first few years he competed locally and, eventually, provincially. Finally his perseverance paid off in 2005 when he won the Nova Scotia Championship in Left Open, and again in 2006. Shawn won eight more Provincial titles with Right Open and Right Overall in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. At the Atlantic Championships in 2005 he won Left and Right Open.
He proceeded to win seven more Atlantic titles: 2006 Right Open, 2008 Left Open; and Right Open in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. At the Canadian Championships, Shawn has captured titles in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012. On the World scene, he has traveled far and wide with great placements including: 2004 Durban, South Africa, 12th in 110 kg Right; 2005 Tokyo, Japan, 110 kg 8th Right and 12th Left; 2006 Manchester, England, 110 kg 12th Right and 24th Left; 2007 Valiko Turnovo, Bulgaria, 110 kg 10th Right and 11th Left. At the World Masters Level in 2009 in Rosolina di Mare, Italy, Shawn won the Bronze medal in 100 kg Left and came 6th in Right, while in the Open he placed 29th Right. Again at the Master Level in 2010 in Mesquite, Nevada, in the 100 kg, he was 7th Left and 10th Right. Shawn’s strength, technique and mental toughness has brought him success in the Sport of Arm Wrestling and undoubtedly will earn him more accolades into the future. The Sports Heritage Wall of Fame is honoured to welcome Shawn Ross as a most deserving inductee.
