Description
One of the most prolific scoring teams to play out of Middleton and District Arena, the 1993- 1994 Mustang PeeWee “C” racked up 50 wins, 2 ties, and only 8 losses enroute to four Tournament Championships: Halifax Hawks Christmas, Joe Lamontagne, Nova Scotia Provincials, and the 17th S.E.D.M.H.A. Pee Wee “CC” Division. Coached by Merle Toole and Assistant Coach, Marty Leddicote, Jim Franko, and Cecil Robicheau, the fourteen member squad had it all – strong goaltending, tough defence, and sharp-shooting forwards.
Little lefty Ryan Coleman, with a stingy goals-against-average of 3.35 made all the key saves along with handling the puck like an extra defenceman. The five member defence corps of: Paul Barker (6g, 37a, 43p), Andrew Gillis (7g, 30a, 37p), Jimmy Franko(2g, 32a, 34p), Nick Balcom (5g, 28a, 33p), and Gordie Bezanson (1g, 17a, 18p), were tough as nails especially in front of their own net. Gillis and Bezanson saw
some duty up front at times. Th e eight members comprising the forward lines were nothing short of outstanding with their playmaking and goal scoring antics with: Llewellyn Robicheau (127g, 86a, 213p), Colin Toole (99g, 76a, 175p), Matthew Eddy (79g, 62a, 141p) leading the way, followed closely by David Leddicote (62g, 37a, 99p), Shane Welton (25g, 34a, 59p), Josh Harris (25g, 29a, 54p), Ryan MacPherson (9g, 36a, 45p), and Greg Brown (12g, 12a, 24p). At Nova Scotia Provincials, in Shelburne, the Mustangs blasted their opponents – host Shelburne 7 to 2, routed Glace Bay 14 to 3, squeaked by Eastern Shore 3 to 1, and in the Championship game downed Shelburne 9 to 1. Named Game M.V.P. were: Robicheau, Toole, Coleman, Robicheau (again) and Leddicote. Team trophies were received as well as Robicheau for Top Scorer and All Star Forward, Toole for Tournament M.V.P. , and Paul Barker for Best Defenceman. Th is prolific team and their staff are most worthy inductees into the Sports Heritage Wall of Fame.
