Description
The Valley Bulldogs wrapped up a most successful undefeated season by capturing the Maritime Division B Championship over the previous season champs St. Stephen Swine in mid November, 1995, in the New Brunswick town. The Bulldogs had reeled off fourteen straight victories!
Coach guru, Bill Wagstaff employing the adage, “the end justifies the means”, saw his club outscore the opposition 318 to 94 points in only twelve Nova Scotia League games. Sometimes the philosophy caused opponents to be critical of the Valley’s rough and tumble play! They continued their winning ways capturing the Shannon Bowl Emblematic of Nova Scotia Division B play by downing arch- rival Cole Harbour.
In St. Stephen NB the Valley Bulldogs were trying to end a ten year drought by Nova Scotia teams. Early in the game Valley got out to a 7-0 lead. They struck again midway through the second half, taking the wind out of the NB squad before icing the Championship 21 to 0 with another try near the game end.
The all around Valley Bulldog attack included: a formidable front row of Jim Gushue, Jason Weaver, Sean Weaver, Brent Buckler, Greg Comeau and Gord Fearn; jammers in the second row were James Bond, Greg Clarke and Graham Dennison; the awesome back row of Jamie Peppard, Dave Galloway, Paul Murphy and Chris Rawding ; and speedsters Joey Connell, Steve Girard, Colin Curry, Rob Pumphrey, Brent Rowney, Robbie Parker and Chris Jackson. A remarkable record of achievement by a remarkable Club!
