Karen’s coaching career began with her teaching career. In 1987-88 she taught at Centre Consolidated School in Lunenburg County and coached basketball, volleyball and soccer. She then married MRHS teacher and coach Greg in 1988 and substituted for a year and coached High School Girls Basketball at Lawrencetown Consolidated School. In 1989 Karen obtained a full-time teaching position at Middleton Regional High School where she taught and coached successfully for the past twenty-seven years. She has coached Junior Girls Soccer, Senior Girls Basketball and Junior Girls Basketball for much of that time with great success. Karen also coached the Valley Midget Girls Basketball team in 1993. In 1993-94 her Senior Girls Basketball team were Regional champs and won Silver at Provincials. Karen’s Junior Girls Soccer team were District Champions in 1992-93 and repeated in 1993-94. Her Junior Girls Basketball team were Annapolis Valley Regional School Board Champions in 2002-03 and 2004-05. Indeed her Junior Girls Basketball teams have been an unbelievable 20 out of 21 seasons as NSSAF District Champions. It has been said that the success of the MRHS Senior Girls Basketball teams over the past two decades was built on the foundation laid down by Karen Bower. We are pleased to acknowledge the tremendous contribution to sports in the Middleton area over the past twenty-seven years by inducting Karen Bower into our Sports Heritage Wall of Fame
