T he two-time Provincial “C” Champion “Lady Lancers” L.C.S. were a formidable basketball prowess from 1976 – 78. Over the two year span they won an impressive 51 games while losing only 10. Along the way they netted 2885 points an average of 47.3 per game while allowing only 1881 points against an average of 30.8.
In their first Championship at Eastern Passage they dropped Margaree Fork, 47-24 before downing the host team 52-38. Pat Mallia was Tournament Most Valuable Player as well as All Star, while teammate Tanya Mann joined her on the All Star team. On their repeat the following year in Cape Breton they destroyed Kings Edgehill 58-19 before winning over New Ross 65-40. Mann was again an All Star as well as being selected M.V.P while Mona Steadman joined her on the All Star Team.
Mallia, Mann, and Steadman were standouts for both years as were Captain Mary Brydon, Nadine Poole, and Janet Tratt. Three steady veterans graduated in ‘77 but were replaced by four promising rookies. Long standing Lawrencetown Coach Dave Whitman was in charge for both years.
